Yapahuwa

Yapahuwa was one of the capitals in Sri Lanka situated in North Western Province. The fortress is built around a huge granite rock, almost 100 meters above the surrounding lowlands. The palace and fortress was built by King Buvanekabahu I in the year 1273. The king used the rock fortress as his capital and kept the sacred  tooth relic of the Buddha here in  Yapahuwa period.
